Critical mass only makes things harder for all cyclists. Blocking right of way, threatening innocent people, assaulting innocent people who are following the law. That won't gain respect, just animosity from people who might have been neutral or pro-bike before. Simple psychology.
CM appears to act like a (weak) terrorist wing, encouraging anarchy, flouting of law, intimidating others, and destroying property. This is not constructive in light of their stated goals.

I agree with verdegrrl 100%.
I like the concept of Critical Mass, but the fact that they blatantly violate traffic laws during their parade ruins any positive effect that they could have.
This video CLEARLY shows them knowingly and blatantly ignoring the traffic lights and harassing car drivers. Behavior like that is NOT a good way to get anyone on your side.
