I love filking and I wish there was a large gathering of it like Consonance in the northeast. I've been trying to find an outlet for my own songs for years.

The thing that these people don't get is that Folk Music IS filk, and has always been. The same tunes get recycled over and over again, generation after generation--with new lyrics that are topical at the time... Heck, even the Star Spangled Banner is filk--the tune started out as a British drinking song... Ah, the short-sightedness of techies--no, people, the world does NOT revolve around your Thesis on the Quantum Theory of Microprocessor Anomolies While Running XP... Funny, yes, but sad...

Why does everything have to be in Atlanta? or Miami? I live in a small town close to the GFA state line. Why can't a filk con be held in the great open outdoors like....that thing they did in New York back in the sixties? Come on Filkers. Unite. Let's get something going down on one of the 'unknown' beaches, or some out of work farmer's field.

I'll have to see about making it one year. I've wanted to participate in the Dragon*Con open mic. I definately plan on doing such this coming event. :)
