Soutar mentioned "...more friction...", however, the surface is harder. Makes no sense. BTW, nothing wrong with maple. Formica is just cheaper for the owners.

kinda funny how he refers to himself as an "average league bowler." i didn't know that an average league bowler could win the tournament of champions 3 times along with winning tournaments using 3 different approaches. lol.

Be careful with Soutar's comment as it's a bit dated. I don't know the exact hardnesses, but I think on a scale of more friction to low friction it goes: Guardian-type overlays, wood, AMF HPL, Brunswick Anvilane, Brunswick Pro Anvilane. I don't know if there is a new AMF version of HPL. There other manufacturers and other discontinued types so you just have to be open-minded.
