  • yes! its called the tilt nuckle bearing.

  • I just turned 200k miles on my 91 Astro and I love them so much I own 4 of them that are still on the road today. Between all four of my vans I have almost a million miles on them. Now not many people can say that about the car they drive.

  • it's all in the canceling cam or one of the retracting springs.

  • I agree 1000 % maybe me and you should start designing cars that are mechanic friendly. What you think?

  • did you get it yet? this job is kinda hard, so on scale of 1-10 i give it a 8 for hardness. :(

  • this is one of the hard parts, if you bend the the lock spring on the steering wheel lock will not work. you can get a new one from the dealer or LMC online, also the high low beam it tough too. just move slow and don't force it, or it will bend and break. you can tilt the colmun and that should help you line it up for you.

  • Do you happen to know the name of the bearing you can see at 2:06 sitting right around the shaft? Mine is missing 3 of the balls and I haven't been able to locate a replacement yet.

  • Thanks for the video just replaced the turn signal switch for a 95 Astro. Got tripped up on the high beam switch but was finally able to figure it out.

  • Forgot to mention that the reason all becomes loose is because we use the steering wheel to pull ourselves up into the seat.

  • I had same problem on '89 Safari in 1997.

Didn't remove the loose bolts as shown here.

Just tightened them well…except one of the four. The fourth was too difficult to get to because I didn't remove as much, not having the tools.

Getting the turn signal switch back on was the most difficult part.

Anyway, it has held ever since and van now has 318k.

  • those old style hazard switches were always a bitch to turn on never cold figure out how to trigger it

  • @stainless1911 its all relavent, parking lot designers have never driven a big truck, engine designers have never built and engine. Take the cummins N14, 855, or L10. Who in their right mind would put a bolt that only allows a 1/8 turn to be removed on the back of an accessory drive.
