The Oversight Committee is examining reports of food stamp merchants previously disqualified who continue to defraud the program. According to a Scripps Howard News Service report, food stamp fraud costs taxpayers hundreds of millions every year.

This is SO easy to avoid. SNAP dollars loaded onto state issued debit cards can be restricted to only be redeemed for certain foods (all products have identifying codes). SNAP funds should only be available for foods that are on the USDA's MY PLATE recommendations.

europe stopped food stamp programs about 10 years after world war 2 ended, and instead spent this on reducing cost of food production and subsidizing jobs.

Obama’s Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack said food stamps are an economic stimulus. The Obama policy is simple: food stamps do a better job of stimulating the economy than jobs do. What would be nice before November would be to expose names and political affiliations of those involved in the fraud.
