Motrin Ad Makes Moms Mad

Why the cussing? One of the reasons the ad is a problem is because it may teach new young moms that keeping your baby close will hurt you. That is not good for the baby or the mommy. The idea here is that everyone gets a voice (including you). Moms in recent history have been so put down if they aren't in the work force as if they are something less. That's a bummer, especially for a mom who made the choice to dedicate herself to raising her babies.
Cheers!

I don't think there was so much rage going on, only people voicing opinions about an ad they found offensive. You took the time to post three comments here (and show the ad to more than one mother?). If that's reasonable so is a mom posting her comment about an ad she didn't like. Get what I mean? We all get to voice an opinion and I hope we can all use our posts for bettering things in this world instead of putting others down. :-)

@YoJewMama I may not be a mother, but I know exactly what you mean... from the child's point of view. I hated being left at Grandma's house (not because she was ever unkind) when my mother went to night school. I was in kindergarten and separation from my mother was very hard on me emotionally, so how much more so for one much younger??? Honestly, I just get so angry when someone judges someone else because that person isn't doing what they "should be doing."

@SarahBurnham I certainly hope in 2 years you've come to your senses and realize how heartless this ad---and your comment---was.

Tylenol and Johnson & Johnson did something wrong too? Heck I didn't even know about Motrin's ads until only minutes ago! I even wondered if wearing babies DID cause strain on one's back, shoulders, neck, etc. It's a good thing I watched this next. I need my camp pain reliever SOMEWHERE, though. Anyway, if anything, all the babywearing makes me wish I had a baby myself! I already love babies anyway. I wonder if my mommy-activist friend knows about these ads. Ooohh, I've gotta ask her!!!

This is the stupidest controversy I've ever seen. Don't you women have anything better to do than rally like locusts to mundane bullshit? Oh my god a pain medicine company said something might cause aches!! Boycott them for suggesting moms are terrible! Wait? What? A big fucking leap in logic.

@kripsyjo except that wearing a carrier isnt supposed to hurt. If it does, it's being worn incorrectly

I'm late to the party. However, I'm curious:
In your studies, have you learned how this Motrin ad was horrible advertising, and offended its target audience? Otherwise, you might expect your advertising career to have problems.

As an advertising major I would like to say that I think Motrin came up with a clever way to showcase their product, you people need a life. Get over yourselves!

Ok, I haven't been commenting here, but this is too good not to. Insulting your target market is never good advertising. They were targeting babywearing moms - the babywearing moms were the ones who got upset. Why would a babywearing mom buy their product after her feelings were hurt by them? Give me one reason. Good luck with your studies.
