He was an atheist, and now he is Fr. Lazarus ELAnthony, a hermit coming from Australia to live in St. Anthony's Monastery in the deserts of the Red Sea, Egypt.
Fr. Lazarus is telling the details of his trip to the Coptic orthodox faith in Monk's life series.
His mother's death due to cancer pushed him to look to life from a different perspective; he read a book for a monk called Thomas Merton where he found the same circumstances. So, he decided to go to a monastery and be a monk, he went to an orthodox monastery in Russia, and while he was making a matanoya for St. Mary, he heard a voice talking to him saying;" I'll be you mother. " And she repeated it again saying:" you mother has dead, but I'll be your mother."
He asked about St. Mary and knew a lot about her, then he decided to be baptized in the Coptic Orthodox Church.
And now he is a hermit in a cave near to St. Anthony's Monastery in Egypt for over 14 years ago.

  • What an amazing person. God Bless you!

  • @cuttlefisch have you watched it all? he was first in Serbia prthodox. I thaught they are the same. But the main issue is not the place but the practice and understandings about God. Some really not understand what jesus was teaching, they used his name and do their own ajenda not related to christianity. Read about some scandevian and western people. To the contrary, still they blame religion for every mess. the church leaders who are playing hide and seak on their lives and messing up evthng.

  • I love the way he talks

  • @cuttlefisch Coptic Orthodox is still orthodox. The Copts were misunderstood at the council of Chalcedon. The Copts with other oriental churches and the eastern orthodox church believe in the same thing, just expressed differently. The Oriental Orthodox used St Cyrill of Alexandrias methiod of looking at the natures of Jesus, and The Eastern othrodox church used the council of chalcedon

  • I have a question: if he went to a monastery in Russia why did he become a Copt instead of a mainstream Orthodox Christian?
