LET'S SAY YOU ARE LIVING IN 1959 AND WANT TO BUY A NEW THUNDERBIRD. YOU GO TO A FORD DEALER AND ASK THE SALESMAN TO SHOW YOU A CONVERTIBLE. HE TAKES YOU TO THIS RED ONE WITH THE TOP DOWN. THE RED CONVERTIBLE YOU CHOSE IS ONE OF 10,261 BUILT THIS MODEL YEAR. THERE WERE TWO ENGINE CHOICES. THE LINCOLN 350 HP, 430 CID WAS NOW AVAILABLE FOR THUNDERBIRDS. THE OTHER HEFTY ENGINE WAS THE 352 CID, 300 HP POWERPLANT. THE LIST PRICE FOR THIS CAR WAS $3,979. SO, CHECK OUT YOUR NEW PURCHASE, CHROME, RED PAINT, AND PLUSH RED BUCKET SEATS AND INTERIOR. • I had a white 59' T-bird hardtop as a teen, I even went to prom in it, my date really enjoyed all the attention she got stepping out of it!

It was a barn find, so it wasn't as nice as this. This one is fully loaded though, air conditioning and power windows were expensive upgrades back then.

Sadly, I sold mine when I left home, there wasn't room for a second car where I was going and my parents didn't want it taking up half their garage anymore.

  • @JetRyan25 You're another one that mourns the loss of a favorite car. Many viewers miss what they use to have. Good 'ol T birds. They are special. Perhaps you can acquire another one some day. Yours was a great prom car but I bet the guys were looking at the Bird instead of your date. lol Thanks very much for sharing your story.

  • Awesome car one of my favorite cars. :)

  • @mrdestoryit This is an awesome T bird and I enjoyed very much seeing this jewel. Thank you for enjoying this.

  • @cheddyrod Again, what you state is true. The 2-seater T-bird was lamented but then the seating for 4 gained popularity. These were truly personal luxury cars. And, talk about styling. Styling back then made more of an impact then today. Cookie cutter jelly beans with simliar grilles, tail lights, interiors, etc. THIS, is what I lament today. Lack of originality. Lack of pizzazz. Boring designs. Thanks again for your valuable comments.

  • This is the 2nd year of the 4 passenger square bird. Purists lamented the passing of the 2 seater bird, but customers flocked to the new bird. Ford set the standard for the personal luxury car for several more years. Beautiful dash to look at as you cruised the interstates back then. Sadly we can't and won't have great styling that again.
