The New Hardy Players act a short scene from their 2009 production "The Mayor of Casterbridge" written by Thomas Hardy. Devina Symes has adapted the story for the stage at the request of Norrie Woodhall who is the last surviving person that knew and worked with Thomas Hardy when she was 16 years of age. Norrie is now 103. The scene depicts Michael Henchard (who will become the Mayor of Casterbridge) breaking the news that he intends to leave Casterbridge to his 'daughter' Elizabeth Jane. The Play will be performed at several locations in Dorset during June and July 2009. Visit www.hardyonline.org for more information. Copyright: Devina Symes/The New Hardy Players 2009
