This excerpt from Kokoyakyu: High School Baseball, shows the moments after heavily favored Chiben High School loses in the prefectural tournament. The excerpt does an excellent job of illustrating the emotions felt not just by the players but by most of the students of the high school, including the cheering section. The speech by the head of the cheering section can also be used to help illustrate the sempai/kohai (or senior student/junior student) system that is central to Japanese schools.

未成年である高校生にプロ野球でも投げられることのない160Km の速球を打つ練習をさせて、根性を付ける為という理由だけで何百回もランニング漬けにしたり・・・
これはもう、科学的トレーニング等無くてね。ただただ監督による選手への虐め行為にも似ていてね。プロ野球候補生を故障させて潰す様なやり方をしている。
そういう事実もある。困った問題がまた起こるかも知れんよ。
