This is a contemporary piece composed in 2009 spring by I.M. Harjito, the artist in residence of Wesleyan Javanese Gamelan. The piece utilizes elements of the gamelan orchestra in new ways while combining them with the sounds of the Chinese erhu. Performers: Joy Lu (erhu soloist) & Wesleyan Javanese Gamelan (led by Sumarsam and I.M. Harjito). Date and place: April 30, 2009, World Music Hall, Wesleyan University, CT, USA. Note of the soloist: Joy Lu is a musician, scholar, educator, and conductor. She received a B.A. in erhu performance and music education from National Taiwan Normal University, and an M.A. in Ethnomusicology from the University of Sheffield, U.K. She is a Ph.D. student in Ethnomusicology at Wesleyanthe, also the instructor of Wesleyan Chinese ensemble .
