Beethoven Symphony No. 7
movement 1
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Felix Weingartner

Columbia L1898-1902
recorded January 1927

This is the RPO 1927 recording. He recorded this symphony three times. With the London SO in 1923, this 1927 recording and in 1936 the famous one with the Wiener Philharmoniker.
This 1927 version is perhaps not as well played as the 1936 one with the VPO, but overall this is a very fine performance with more steady tempi.

  • Weird- It starts out in A, then around 2:40 the pitch drops about a quarter tone and SUDDENLY rises almost a half-step at 3:47! There must be something wrong with the recording...

  • @PDQGorby speed fluctuations are common with 78s.
