Cuba has held one of its largest military parades in decades, to mark the 50th anniversary of the failed CIA-led invasion at the Bay of Pigs. Flags were draped on buildings and military planes roared through the sky as Cubans celebrated the occasion, seen as a triumph over the US.

The celebrations come ahead of a long-delayed congress of the ruling Communist Party, which is expected to endorse President Raul Castro's plans for radical economic change.

Hundreds of thousands of people joined marches in the capital, Havana. Michael Voss reports.

  • @CubanExile CUBA IS DOING BETTER NOW REALLY NEW DEALS WITH CHINA AND VENEZUELA NOW YOU will SEE MODERN BUSES NEW appliances available China found oil off-shore so no more excuses

  • @CubanExile You sound like you'd enjoy spending time in a Gulag.

  • CUBA = FAIL Embargo is used as excuse. They can buy from CHINA just like the USA. The # 1 food and medical importer of supplies to CUBA is wait for it USA ! What they want is FREE MONEY like the rest of the SOCIALIST PIGS all over the world. They don't want to work they want it all FOR FREE.

  • @UDSS First off, you correct in that it was not a socialist revolution first off, it became that later. However, Fidel had been a communist and a Marxist-Leninist for several years before the revolution. Secondly, there is very substantial worker control of the economy in Cuba (though I would never say it is absolute nor is the system perfect) and a huge degree of community control of community affairs.

ps. The name or flag of the country doesn't have to be changed, it doesn't matter they are.

  • The Cuban revolution was not a workers revolution. There was no talk about socialism until 1961. Fidel Castro was not a ''communist'' during those time, Che Guevara and Raul Castro were communists, but not Fidel.

It was a nationalist revolution, that is why the Cuban flag and anthem were not changed. Cuba is still called the Republic of Cuba and not People's Republic of Cuba.

Cuban ''socialism'' is a lie, it is based on post 1956 soviet stalinism, not on marxism leninism.

  • they didnt beat ud we didnt even try
