To all you so called reno guys...you haven't a clue on how to remove a cast iron tub let alone a steel tub. I've been doing this for 8 years and never have I had to smash a cast iron tub to remove it. The longest it has ever taken to remove one was about 60 minutes. Alot better than smashing it.
@agentswacky Refinishing is good for a little-used tub if the finish is the reason to do it, but on a frequently-used bathtub it may not be worth it. Check references as you may need touch-ups, and the refinish may only last as short while. Most last less than 5 years and many only a year or two.
Better to use a sledgehammer and break it apart if you can. (Make sure nothing is hanging or against walls or below floor that might fall or be damaged). Safety goggles, gloves and hearing protection are a must, but avoids the risks of injury and damaging doorways and walls, floors, etc.especially if the tub is on the second floor.
One person can remove one from a second floor in about an hour with little effort that way. I have done well over 100 this way.
don,t remove it have it refinished they are much better than the new ones and are deeper have a better resale value and cost at least a 1000 dollars sit in the one you intend to buy before you do anything you will be saveing that tub'
when we where doing my btothers, we had to remove it from an up stair bathroom. we had to beat the piss out of that tub for 6 hours just to get it apart lol. cast iron is no joke
