A very quick clip to show the process Soren goes through when making one of his unique wooden lamp shades.

!!! Please before you write a negative comment about the waste of wood, please realize , this is fast growing pine, it had already been cut down to be used as firewood, the centre of the log is sap wood and is very poor quality, and all the wood chips are reused in another way, for heating, or in the garden. We appreciate your care for nature, and assure you that we too have the same regard for what our planet gives to us.

  • Screw the negativity. That is pretty f'in neat.

  • @superfluousification read the descripition.

  • @superfluousification

Then I'm sorry man, but you don't get it. You may be about results and efficiency because that's what's profitable to you, but that's not how everyone is. The point of this video is about the process; seeing something develop itself right before your eyes by someone who understands his craft well. It's a work of art.

  • @superfluousification may be he did it only once for himself? and sawdust may be recycled or used somewhere in the garden

  • This seems very wasteful, he is basically just machining away 99% of the material. I am an engineer and this would never fly at my company. One solution would be to core out log into several hollow cylinders and make many lamp shades from the resulting hollow cylinders. I am not a tree huger or anything, i just cant justify wasting so much wood to make a lamp shade.

  • I don't care about the waste of wood for the shade, but what a waste of effort! Coulda made something cooler.

  • i love how people pretend that they are helping the environment by leaving pretentious and ignorant comments

  • @SriLankanTruth so, you dont like when people make beutifull things out of wood?

And it it make you feel better, he, as most working with wood, uses all parts of it. At least for heating. You would have known that if you bothered to read the text that goes with the video.

  • @fanarty so...

It is better to make paper of it so you and others could whipe their arses? Or to make that masterpiece that would last 50 years, unless you sat on it?

I uses trees like that to heat up my house from my wood, do you think that is better use? A stump like that would prob. last a day. Is that better use of that tree?

A stump like that would take 40-75 years to grow here. And if you would bother to read, he uses ALL of the stump. But I guess you dont bother such things

  • Wimp :)
