In assist/control mode,how can hyperventilation be avoided?I mean if the patient takes a lot of spontanius breath in a minute,and the ventilator delivers the set volume all the time,there's a risk of hyperventilation,isn't it?

That is one problem with A/C. Check see why the patient is hyperventilating...pain? might need pain med/ Wrong setting...check sensitivity. Is it caused by a leak in the circuit while on PEEP? May be the patient no longer needs the ventilator.
