@airscrew1 I disagree in a way. Yes, youre always going to need to be upgrading your electronic gear, but its always advancing so much which is usually the main reason for most people to be upgrading anyway. Film on the other hand is slowly becoming outdated. 16mm film only has 5 years tops left before it stops being produced and developed. 35mm will be around for a long time still, but once DSLR's become more useable in raw format then they will exceed 35mm (refer to The Great Camera Shootout)

@NordicRick Really? I bought a Canon HV40 Legria last year and sold it within 2 months. Total crap and all made from flimsy plastic. These video camcorders are built to a cheap budget and don't last long. You are forever upgrading when you buy electronic gear, but with film you buy a future proof format.

@airscrew1 Yeah,I ended up getting a canon vixia hf s20.

@NordicRick If I had £3000 to spend on an Arri SR2 or a, here today gone tomorrow video camera, I'd go for the Arri anyday.

@dayofchaosfilms You can have the luxury of video assist, but true film cameramen will know their equipment and how to expose properly. How to compose and how to focus. That's why there are so many people using digital video and still cameras because if they were still shooting on film they'd be out of a job.

Here I am chasing new technology, and you guys are using an old Arriflex.I guess it goes to show you that these cameras can still be used for something.

I loved working with these cameras. So straightforward and compact.

Nnnnnnnice toy! Where did you get it?
I've never shot on film before, so this question is probably going to sound stupid. But, how do you monitor the image on film cameras? I see you guys managed to plug it into a screen for monitoring, and I've seen other film makers do it in feature films and stuff as well. Does the camera body itself also have CCDs built in to enable this feature? Or is it just something you guys setup yourselves?

@dayofchaosfilms Not a stupid question. Search "Video Assist" on Wikipedia.
