NJT Santa Train Passing through Somerville Station with lead unit 4219

With two GP40-2's and twelve comet cars in-between, the santa train leaves Raritan Station heading east to Westfield, passing the Somerville station which is in the process of being renovated. One of the improvements is to raise and extend the platforms.

It's nice to see a vid of the construction there. The platforms are being put in. I think the white structure thing is a the elevator.

@trainzrok Right, they are rehabilitating the two existing freight elevator shafts plus adding new ADA compliant elevator cabs w/ machine rooms. Those are just a few.

ah this video will be a thing of the past now that somerville station is nearly halfway complete.

@jimtrain18 the shafts will be rehabilitated. I believe they are installing the elevator cabs right now. The have cut a door open on the structure.

yeah, those used to be part of the old somerville station they took them out and moved them down toward the new platform.
