She often said she learned the most from other singers — notably Gobbi, Simionato and others. But she adored Olivero and Clara Petrella, and often attended their performances. Obviously, she kept everything they did in mind as she uses the voice in a kind of burnished, guttural tone because basically Carmen is a slut, so the refined technique of bel canto that so many pinhead high-note queens prefer is useless and inappropriate to the role.
