im no expert, but wouldnt logic tell you there is gold in the arkansas river. i know there is tons in the same river in colorado. flowing for how many thousands of years and im pretty sure science would back up the fact that theres probably gold in the arkansas river running through wichita.

If you look real hard in the pan guys, you may notice it seems he had some black sand in there. Might have been a stain on the pan from seasoning it on a campfire too, the shot is very quick and not shot very well. If it is black sand, I would dig that spot out again but go about 3-5 feet deeper and for gods sake please buy a plastic pan with riffles! that metal pan is like driving a Model T car on the interstate.

nick Contrary to what the mountain people think there is color in midwestern creeks and rivers. Don't let the AK comment dissuade you from looking.
While it is not in huge qualities, I have found places in Nebraska where I can get 10-20 fly specks to the pan. It ain't much but it beats driving 800 miles to CO, or WY. You might consider looking for the glacial maps on Emporia State U website. Very good resource, where creek cut through the old moraines you will find color in the creek
