Drilling hole #3 with a diamond bit hole saw to fit a bulkhead for one of the sump return lines in my 20 gallon long tank. All you need is a cheap diamond-bit holesaw from eBay, running water, and steady hands. :)

  • did you get any chips in the inside surface - rocking the drill like that ?

  • @ReeferDave There were a few very small, shallow ones that werent of any concern. Once the bulkheads are tighted, there shouldnt be any structural weakness :)

  • i would be practicing a few times before doing my tank :-)

I like your method of running water on the glass - i will be deffo doing that .

but i would put tape underneath to catch the cut out bit when i do it.

  • @ReeferDave Yeah tape works, for the next few holes I did, I just placed a rag inside the tank so that the cut out fell onto the rag :)

  • will the same drill bit work for ceramics?

  • @dswrain I have no idea

  • HEADPHONE USERS BEWARE MY EARS ARE LITERALLY BLEEDING!

  • Velle if you have an electric drill, and I see you use water... If I use water can that cause any risk of me getting electrocuted?

  • Well I'm making a Steam Roller. Haha

  • @dswrain - A diamond core drill or tools will work on ceramics, too-

  • Bong here too

  • Just bought a 1.5 foot tall glass vase from Walmart for $12 that gets narrower at the top all I need is a drill and a bowl and I have a 150 dollar piece thanks for the help

  • @ReeferDave whats the running water for?

  • @dswrain You cant really go through ceramic perfect. It has to be made right after taken out of the mold. Just cut a hole through the slack.

  • I tried drilling a hole in some glass and it shattered :(
