It takes THOUSANDS of years for coral to regrow. if too many selfish people go scuba diving there will be very few good dive sites left in the world in 100 years

Coral bleaching occurs when the polyp of the coral dies. Coral structures are a result of the symbiotic relationship between a polyp animal and a photosynthetic plant. The plant uses sun energy to fuel the polyp. The polyp metabolizes calcarious molecules found in the ocean to make the coral structure that houses the two organisms.
Changing water temperatures due to climate change and land sources of pollution that change the water's pH are suspected causes of recent bleaching trends.
