Liambas was lining him up as he was coming around the net, Faneli saw him coming, and tried to get rid of the puck at the last split second. If he didn't turn, Liambas would have hit him square in the chest, resulting in a lot less dangerous hit.

It is the responsibility of the checker to let up when a player is defenseless to a check; which in this case, fanelli was.
