From the Album "Master of Reality Deluxe Expanded Edition" released by Vertigo.

Review by dieshellsuit.co.uk:

The influence of Sabbath and of this album in particular on anyone professing to be heavy is undeniable. The opening track alone can be said to have spawned an entire genre. There was always more to the band than simply primordial riffs, of course (despite what idio-critics of the time said) and Master of Reality exemplifies this. After Forever and Orchid display the oft-forgotten jazz leanings of the band, Solitude the oft-ignored restraint, such that the body-crushing power of Lord of this World and Into the Void are increased by the bit of relief beforehand - to say nothing of the unstoppable juggernaut that is Children of the Grave.

Disc two shows us some rough notes; Weevil Woman 71 has the band still messing around with clunky boogie as they did on their debuts Evil Woman. Thankfully, the track didnt make the cut, although Ritchie Blackmore may have been listening. . . Solitudes out-take is probably the most interesting, with the sparse production giving the track a more intimate feel and a better idea of Ozzys vocal skill, as hes neither belting it out nor smothered in blankets of reverb.

Overall, the remastering is, again, a triumph and makes for that most rare of beasts - a re-issue well worth buying.

  • My favourite album from Black Sabbath is "Master of Reality", of course... But then again I also like all of their early stuff untill "Technical Ecstasy" (the only song that I truly like on that album is "Dirty Women"). In my opinion, "Master of Reality" gave the idea of what stoner metal/doom metal is all about, but there's also a very grungy and sludgy sound in many of the songs, so I could really say it's very influencial to both sludge metal and grunge !

  • @doom696mented: I couldn't have said it any better.

  • the song wheels of confusion includes the straightener

and this song after forever includes the eulegy

anyone care to comment on that????????

  • @MiloSassy2010: The outro of "Wheels of Confusion" is called "The Straightener".

The outro of "Under the Sun" is called "Every Day Comes & Goes". Though those aren't on the Album "Master of Reality", they are on "Vol.4". There isn't a Sabbath song called "Eulegy". I guess you mean "Embryo", it's the song after "After Forever" on the orginial LP.

  • I used to have this album.

Totally forgot about some of the songs on it until I ran across your vids.

(looking for more with vocals removed. Need a good War Pigs one).

    ROCK ON MAN!!!!

  • @legman53: You're welcome.

There is a instrumental version of War Pigs on the Paranoid Deluxe Edition.

As it's already on Youtube i didn't wanted to upload it a second time.

  • @outlawcountryman Well... all of their Ozzy-era albums are great, you know... that's why Black Sabbath was great, because they were all with Ozzy. My favourites are their early stuff, but their 1976 and 1978 are also good, but not one of my favourites. That doesn't mean I don't like Black Sabbath after "Sabotage".

  • @doom696mented I love all the ozzy era sabbath albums including technical ecstasy, and never say die

  • Black Sabbath invented the idea of metal music, generally speaking.Their debut was a very heavy distorted blues rock, which is said to have "created" in a way stoner rock and doom metal through their well known songs from that album, then there's "Paranoid" with songs like "Fairies wear boots", "hand of doom", "war pigs" and even "paranoid", which was developing the doom/stoner rock/metal idea and there was this ULTIMATE album, which totally closed the case ! Volume 4 only continued the idea ...

  • OK, but what ever happened to before forever?

  • I LOVE the bass in this song.

  • @TheMaggot81 He means the Elegy. On the American (vinyl?) release of this album, several extra songs were added in which were actually parts of other songs.
