Rebellion is an amazing Power Metal band from Germany. They have 4 albums.

From the lands of sweden they came
862 was the year
Sailing under the flag
Of Rurik spreading fear

Nowgorod was their stronghold called
The lands around they subdue
Blonde warriors cunning
Mighty and true

The rivers they rule
Warriors to the core
The rus they are called
Standing proud and tall
Here their word is the law

The rus they are called

Swjatoslav their present king
His names's like thunder on the plain
He conquered the bulgars
And chasars by sword and flame

They rule the rivers to Miklagard
And to pass we must pay
A mighty kingdom
to last for many a day

  • Well, the *leaders* of the Rus (at least originally) were from Sweden. But (from the evidence we have; it's a lot harder to tell what the average farmer/warrior/trader was doing than the leaders were, since that was all that was recorded) the bulk of their population intermarried pretty quickly with the local Slavic populations, and both leaders and commoners culturally assimilated pretty quickly, regardless of genetics, as can be seen in the shift in names (Norse Rurik vs Slavic Svjatoslav)

  • @Jenga666 The Rus where originaly swedish, just wanted to point out that.

  • @ManofWar55

I thought so. I wasn't sure, but I was sure the Russians were depended from Viking forefathers.

  • @Wofka1986. Oh, my bad.

  • @ManofWar55 Actually it looks like you missunderstanded me.

  • @Wofka1986. So why did you tell me they say Holmgard and start this entire conversation?

  • @ManofWar55 Yes, they say Nowgorod but its historicly not true.

  • @Wofka1986. Okay, and that's awesome and all, but I'm pretty sure they say Nowgorod in the song dude...
