What you fail to realize is that if there are no mountains, no trees, rocks, slate in these reclamation areas, then the water will not absorb and will eventually floods will kill the residents in the once luscious valleys. Also, a deep mine, more expensive to the companies, and a bother to them to follow safety rules etc, would employ MORE equipment operators, truck drivers, mechanics, miners etc. The companies are moving in raping our homes of their beauty, and of their lives.

coal companties are destroying the beautiful mountains of kentucky, Va, and West virginia and its a shame...my mother and fathers clean drinking water has been destroyed and their home have cracks in them... they remove all of the trees, but never put the trees back and when they do, its not the type of trees that they removed

There is no easy answer, but something
needs to be done. deep mining doest cause quite a big a mess.

Looks like a good place for a major airport. with many jobs and major income for WV. Making lemonade out of lemons?
We need more artist "from here" visiting to bring attention our issues. Unfortunetly, it takes someone "from here" to get attention.on here.

Toilet paper is made from new or "virgin" paper, using a combination of softwood & hardwood trees.Softwood trees such as Southern pines & Douglas firs have long fibers that wrap around each other;this gives paper strength.Hardwood trees like gum, maple and oak have shorter fibers that make a softer paper.Toilet paper is generally a combination of approximately 70% hardwood & 30% softwood.
Let me ask you-Have you ever been raped?I have & its startin to make me real upset comparing MTR to Rape

"Where did U get the energy 2 make this video?"
well, 5% of the energy came from a practice that destroys mountains, poisons water and endangers children.
"where did you get the toilet paper to wipe your butts with??I'll tell ya where MASSEY ENERGY!! "
I was not aware that Massey makes toilet paper. I guess that is better than raping Appalachia for profit.

There are better, cleaner ways of mining coal that aren't practiced and should be. HOWEVER, you don't hear that argued. These guidelines aren't followed because of the corporate giants pinching pennies. Why not protest those corporate offices rather than taking it out on those men and women that are only trying to feed their families? It's getting ridiculous...

Ya know, I'm from a small town in WV where coal mining is everything. I ALSO have been a victim of a mine break that cause ours and those homes of family members to be unlivable. With that being said...I'm sick of all the hype about closing mines.

all of this ~ sorry guess i deleted part of it
Now, I've seen Kathy come back and give many free concerts, and I've seen her give local concerts where she donated all proceeds to local charities. She made her money from a wider base than WV, and has put at least some of that back into her home area.

It is definitely true that strip mines and mountain top removal mines employ fewer West Virginians than deep mines. However, when the deep mine is closed, and the strips are all that is left, around a dozen of those 40 people per mine would be locals with no other job choice in many places. This affects not just miners, but equipment operators, truck drivers, mechanics, etc.
