  • Genesis' Cush is understood by scholars to be Egyptian Kush, whose border with Egypt according to Ezekiel is Syene (Modern Aswan). Thus Kush is the modern country of Sudan _not_ Ethiopia. Ethiopia is a Greek word meaning "burnt" or "darkened" as in Negroe's black skin. By Medieval times Ethiopia came to embrace Abyssinia, modern Ethiopia. Gihon is the Nile according to Josephus (ca. 80 AD). I have a youtube video on Gihon possibly preserved in Arabic as Gianiah at the 1st and 2d Nile cataracts.
