I am curious as to ask why Karpov resigned; he could perpetually check the king resulting in a three-fold repetition draw or 50 moves without a piece being taken draw. Could someone get back to me as this doesn't seem to make much sense to me.

Black cannot give more checks If 45 .... .Rc4 + 46 .Kxc4, Ke5 and white wins

If 45 .... .Rd3 + 46 .Kxd3, Ke5 and white wins Then it has not stalemated With other plays white will win

no it was a win, garry won, only if he takes the rook where it checked its a stalemate, but once the king moved farther down theres no more stalmate chances i think karpov resigned.

0:21 Мне не понятно, почему Карпов оставил ферзя на линии D, по сути,под ударом. При этом ещё и отнял поле D7 у коня. Тут в голову приходит только недооценка соперника. Карпов видимо рассчитывал застопорить игру на королевском фланге и начать штурм на ферзевом. Это если не прибегать к компьютерному анализу))

@Namdrenu666 I believe #18 bishop x knight is wrong... I believe queen takes knight was a better option and then force and exchange threating white rook because the bishop sacrifice for the pawn was the dessicive move
