International Orangutan Awareness Weekend at Brookfield Zoo

Join us for International Orangutan Awareness Weekend this Sat. & Sun. (Nov. 14-15, 2009) in Tropic World Asia, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and help draw awareness to the fragile state of orangutan habitats.

While exact numbers are unknown, one thing is for sure: the number of orangutans in the wild is decreasing drastically. In Sumatra the latest calculations sh...ow that orangutan numbers have been reduced from 12,000 in 1993 to only about 6,500 today. In Borneo fewer than 40,000 orangutans are believed to remain.
