Wat Misaka was the first person of color to be drafted into what is now the NBA. A Nisei who was born, raised and is still living in Utah, he was the very first draft pick of the New York Knicks, in 1947.

Overcoming the national political climate during World War II, Wat was a star player for Weber State University (then Weber Junior College) in 1942 and 1943, leading the Wildcats to two ICAC Championships. He was named 1943 Weber JC Athlete of the Year.

He then went on to lead the University of Utah to an NCAA Tournament Championship in 1944.

His perseverance and loyalty to his teammates, other Nisei friends and his family are a testament to the unflappable Japanese American spirit.

  • He should go support Jeremy Linn agreed?

  • @LloydChristmas777, I want to add that Misaka seems to have taken care of himself. He's very alert and speaks very well. I assume he eats well and reads often.

  • Thanks for the video. Very interesting. Perhaps you should attach "Jeremy Lin" to your tags. It's not misleading as it's about Asians in the NBA.

  • @chinafriends which is rare now days in the nba, i hope jeremy lin bbeokes the racial profiling in the nba
