Another tune from the end of the great Fusion Jazz era. Montreaux Jazz early '80s. The Stanley Clarke Band with Simon Phillips, Charles Johnson, and Steve Bach. The song is Beyond the Seventh Galaxy. Steve's gear included Minimoog, Fender Rhodes, Oberheim OBX, Yamaha CP-70 electric grand, Arp String Ensemble (I think) More clips soon!
Always was a Stanley Clarke Fan, Glad I purchased this so so album back in 1980, It was the 1st time I heard Simon and was blown away!

You are a very informed fellow. Glad to hear Icarus is leaning more towards the center these days. Love to see him grab a guitar and kick some butt again!

Not quite that strange. He's a political blogger nowadays, used to be right-leaning, now shifting towards center. Long story. Google "little green footballs" to see what he's up to now.

Oh, that is great to know. Thanks for correcting me. About a year or so ago I did search for him and came up empty on youtube, but thanks to posters like this person, more and more stuff is added every day. I understand icarus has become a right-wing radio spokesman. Strange!

Actually, no. He's got about a half dozen clips on YouTube. Another from this same gig with Clarke, and some from 1994 with Al Jarreau. Just search charles icarus johnson in the search box, and dive in!

That was fantastic! May be the only clip where you can see Charles "Icarus" Johnson on video. He's on "School Days" CD, along with Ray Gomez. I saw Stanley a few times back in the heydey of 1975-1981, and mostly saw him with Ray Gomez, another fine player.
