I figured it was about time I uploaded something new. This wildlife video is all about a Family of Red Fox in the Willamette Valley of Oregon being very cute. Since May, 2010, I've been observing this family of Red Foxes through my hobby of wildlife videography and have captured many different behaviors. In this particular wildlife video, you'll see mostly the cute stuff. I'm saving the more interesting behaviors for other videos down the road, depending on what kind of responses I get for this video.

At about the 1:22 mark, one of the behaviors of a Red Fox Kit is learning how to pounce. An adult out mousing will sneak up on its rustling prey in the grass and jump stiff-legged into the air, hoping to come down directly atop the unsuspecting rodent. If the Fox misses, it stomps and flattens the grass with its forepaws, biting in the air to try to catch the mouse. Usually, the Fox wins, but, if not, it will slip away with stately composure as though the display of undignified abandon never occurred. Through play, a Red Fox Kit learns how to pounce and develops this particular skill to help the Kit to become a successful hunter.

In this Family of Red Foxes, the mother fox, of whom I like to refer to as "Ms. Vixen Fox," has 6 kits. Though in these particular clips for the video, you'll see 2 to 4 kits at any one time.

If you would like to see more wildlife in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, check out my older (analog) videos on my YouTube Channel. I have quite the variety of wildlife I've captured on video. Wildlife, wildlife, wildlife, wildlife. Lots and lots of wildlife. Enjoy!

Thanks. It took a lot of time and patience while keeping very quiet and very still behind woodland brush. There were times that a kit would come walking within just a few feet of me while I stood there with my video camera in hand. The trick though, was keeping the mother fox "vixen" from noticing me. It was much harder to keep from being noticed by her, since she was a lot more observant of her surroundings than her little kits were.

  • great video..

  • I love it jumping! why is it doing that?

  • Excellent footage. I can imagine the number of hours that you have spent sat in the woods to capture this footage. Take it from me, it was well worth it. The fox cubs that i work with spend their first months in cages as orphans or as patients so i rarely get to see their natural behavior exhibited like this. Thanks.

  • the mother is gorgeous. You've done a very good job at observing without disturbing. :)

  • I love foxes so much. They're such beautiful creatures.

  • This is wonderful. Excellent photography, and adorable babies! Thank you so much for sharing this wonder with all of us.

  • Sooooo Cuuuute
