As I spend today reading the newly released biography of Steve Jobs, I can't help but marvel at the fact that I read it on one of his many creations. While there is an audiobook available read by Dylan Baker, I was struck with an idea that I needed to try. And now, I share this idea with you.

If you purchased the book via iBooks for iPad or your iPhone, you have the capability of listening the the book by using the Voiceover tools built into the device. Here's a quick how to:

1. Open the Settings App on your iPhone or iPad.

2. Once there, select General, then Accessibility. You can choose to turn Voiceover on from here but I tend to like having an easy on/off option wherever I am so I recommend enabling the "Triple-click Home" feature to be for Voiceover.

3. Now open your iBooks App and navigate to your copy of "Steve Jobs." Once you're there you can triple-click the home button to enable Voiceover.

4. You'll hear "Voiceover On" and it will probably be focused on one of the buttons along the top. Swipe to the right until you see the black box highlighting the page of text. When you reach the bottom of the page, simply swipe three fingers from right to left to turn the page. If necessary, then swipe two fingers down to start reading again.

While this may be a neat thing to do, please give this book the attention it deserves.

Hope you enjoyed this mini tutorial. Leave questions and comments below. :-)

  • what happens if your ipad stops working after purchasing books? do you loose everything or what?

  • @SneEkz87 Not at all. Apple retains your purchases using your AppleID and you can always visit the "Purchased" section of the iBookstore.
