Great race, loving all these athletic vids from the early 80's (back when I was a runner!) - 3 Brits in a steeplechase final!

Colin Reitz is a legend!

Fantastic race and fantastic last lap.
Fantástica carrera y fantástica última vuelta.

It will be a long time before we see three Britons in the top eight at a World or Olympic steeplechase. If ever.

Tommy Ekblom was one of Finland's best steeplechasers. Between 1980 and 1986, he qualified for two Olympic finals, two European Championships finals and one World Championships final. He placed twelfth and ninth in his Olympic finals, eighth and tenth in his European Championships finals, and twelfth in his World Championships final. In this race, he led courageously (or foolhardily) for over 2,000 metres, but then tired out and finished last.

Henry Marsh never won an Olympic or a World Championships medal in the steeplechase. The closest he came to winning such a medal was in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, where he placed fourth, just 0.19 seconds behind his countryman Brian Diemer.

Patriz Ilg was at the top of his running career in 1982 and 1983, winning the European and World championships in steeplechase. In 1984, he missed the Los Angeles Olympics due to an injury. Still in 1986 he got the bronze medal in the European Championships. In 1987, he placed thirteenth in the World Championships.

I feel for Henry Marsh such bad luck at major championships!

Thanks for putting this up, Kev.
This has brought back some good memories. Colin certainly was easy on the eye, wasn't he?
I never really looked at him being 'easy on the eye' - I think I preferred Daley Thompson! lol
