THE GRASS ROOTS TURNED THIS SONG DOWN. IT BECAME A HUGE HIT FOR HAMILTON, JOE FRANK & REYNOLDS IN 1971 (WENT TO # 4). THIS IS A LIVE VERSION FROM 1999. IT IS OFF THE GRASS ROOTS
2000 CD "LIVE AT LAST".
LYRICS: Don't pull your love out on me baby
If you do then I think that maybe
I'll just lay me down and cry for a hundred years
Don't pull your love out on me honey
Take my heart, my soul, my money
But don't leave me drownin' in my tears

You say you're gonna leave
Gonna take that big white bird
Gonna fly right out of here
Without a single word
Don't you know you'll break my heart
When I watch you close that door
Cause I never see you anymore

Don't pull your love out on me baby
If you do then I think that maybe
I'll just lay me down and cry for a hundred years
Don't pull your love out on me honey
Take my heart, my soul, my money
But don't leave me drownin' in my tears

Haven't I been good to you
What about that brand new ring
Doesn't that mean love to you
Doesn't that mean anything
If I threw away my pride
And I got down on my knees
Would I have to beg you, "pretty please"

Don't pull your love out on me baby
If you do then I think that maybe
I'll just lay me down and cry for a hundred years
Don't pull your love out on me honey
Take my heart, my soul, my money
But don't leave me drownin' in my tears

There's so much I wanna do
I've got love enough for two
But I'll never use it girl if I don't have you

Don't pull your love out on me baby
If you do then I think that maybe
I'll just lay me down and cry for a hundred years
Don't pull your love out on me honey
Take my heart, my soul, my money
But don't leave me drownin' in my tears

  • On my TOP 100 list!! thx, Dina

  • @MichaelDinaswirled- you're very welcome!

  • Just sitting here going back looling over old postings and its almost like seeing them for the first time again. I love this song and I enjoy hearing Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds singing it but I bet it would have been a big hit for The Grass Roots if they hadn't turned it down. It just seems loke it was written for Rob to sing but I love it both ways. Thanks again for posting. You do an amazing job and I so enjoy them. Thanks again, Rhonda

  • @ran6658- you are VERY welcome Rhonda! Ron

  • The Grass Root and Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds had the same producer. That's why they sound sort of the same.

  • @thehatchettman1- you're right the producer's name is Steve Barri ! Ron

  • Any body know who P F Sloan is?

  • @rnrscrapbook I am sorry to hear of his passing. The Grass Roots was such a part of my teenage years. What caused him to fall?... Was he ill?

  • Rob, Rest in Peace. You were the heart and soul of the Grass Roots. Your music and performances will live on. We miss you !

  • It's been confirmed that Rob Grill died yesterday after falling and being on a ventilator for three days. He passed away in his wife's arms while "Let's Live For Today" played. He was 67. I saw the Grass Roots a few times in the 1990s, and this song was a highlight every time.
