This is a tool-assisted speedrun of Akumajou Densetsu, the Japanese version of Castlevania 3.
I personally like this version better, mostly due to the music.
I choosed the Sypha path in this speedrun, and switched to her almost right away after finish the cyclops.
I choosed to play as her through the entire speedrun except Draculas 3rd form where i switched to Trevor.
Sypha´s extremly powerful spells gives you the advantage to finish bosses quickly, thats why i choosed her even if she is weaker than Trevor.
You will see what i mean later on.

  • The fight with the mummies, you can kill them with one shot with the lightening spell. I've done it one the real console. You need to go as close to the mummies and use the spell (you will take damage

  • Yeah i know, but if i had i would not have had enough health left to take damage on the cyclops.

This run is old by now, not much work was required to pull this off, i think i did it in one or two days back then.

It´s a very lazy TAS to be honest!

There will be a new run of this game in a near future, frame by frame played.

  • The music is NOT better in this version, I have no idea why people keep assuming that it is.

  • Me personally like this version better, i didn´t at first though.

Some songs in the U.S version are better than some in this one, but overal i like this music better.

  • Wow! My jaw dropped to the floor when you completely owned Medusa! Otherwise, I'm about half and half with the music... I really like the 3rd level music a lot better on the US version but the 1st level in here kicks ass!

  • ty!

I agree, the music on stage one is better than stage 3 music in this version.

  • This sounds wonderful! Why oh why did America get crapped on so much in the NES days? I understand it has to do with the NES pinout compared to the Famicom. But man, Would of loved to just have this version for the music.

  • How come in the overall map, in says Castlevania in the top left corner of the screen? From what i've read that term was only used by the US and European releases of these games. The Japanese releases always referred to it as Dracula or Akumajou Dracula or Dracula X and such...

  • The sound is so much better and damage is decided by what enemy attacks you not the stage making the difficulty more manageable for an already impossible game.

  • when you say tool-assisted, are you playing the game or not?

  • Yes i did perform this, and thx.

Even if this looks like a fast speedrun, there are many things that could be improved.

Im not sure, but i may do another run of it in the future cos seeing this now made me realize how much better some other guy did this game on a gaming site.
