I loved riding the 1-50 cars! I would wait for the Evanston Express to come and let the 2800 series cars go past just to wait for a solid consist of 6000's or 1-50's come and i would ride them. I wouldnt even ride the 2000's series because of my love for the old cars, love to hear them on the curves and high speed running on tracks 1 and 4 between Fullerton and Howard St. Now, i dont even ride CTA anymore.
I feel like these cars were the last to have real character. Now you all these cars with plastic seats and the tracks are speed reguated and you can't really call it a train but, a transit tool. The 1-50's, 6000's, 4000's, and anything before the 22000's came into service (which are still waiting to retire), were REAL trains. But these punk ass kids who like to mark everything up and claim it as "territory" like it's something there just to be their's kinda prohibit that.
Man, did this bring back memories, looking south off the transfer bridge (and IIRC a year later they put the supervisor's shack up there and you couldn't see south anymore!)
I forgot how those 5-50s wouldn't slow down for curves, they just SLAMMED through 'em!
The sights, the sounds...this is the CTA I prefer to remember.
