Great amp I owned a 1991 Hot Rod50 plus but unfortunately sold it to buy the 5150iii. The Soldano I owned had the XL mod which I didn't care for. Scooped the mods and pushed the bass. I didn't want to pay shipping and the cost to have Soldano remove the mod Mike Soldano installed. I never heard the full potential of this head because of the mod.

Does it handle vintage pedal effects OK, or standard effects pedals? My loop has a Fulltone Choralflange, MXR Carbon Copy and TC Electronics Hall of Fame Reverb. I know the HR+ has a line level loop which worries me.

Great tones! Would you consider the HotRod Plus a bright amp? I am looking at a SPlawn Streetrod and Soldano HR+. Currently have a Bogner Shiva and PWE Event Horizon. Thanks!

Nice, is that an Agile guitar?
my tech removed the mod for like $30. I got it done right before I sold it... wish I had done it years before. EVerything I didn't like about the amp was gone. Luckily I got a SLO to replace it but still the HR unmodded was a fantastic sounding amp.

Check out my other video w/o the mod... I think it sounds much better w/o.

both amps have line level loop which means you can't use a typical stomp box which are instrument level.... although some of the higher end ones can do it, like the TC Electronic Nova Delay. You would most likely have to go through the front end. The sound is so good anyway that I use very few effects and the loop some say (HC) that it degrades the sound a bit but I never noticed that. Either way, it sounds so damn good it won't matter a lick about the loop. Most of the time I go strait in.

Very midrange amp which is great for cutting through the mix. I think general consensus is that it sounds better than Splawn, but its a personal decision. If you are looking at a HR, I might keep an eye out for a used SLO which is what I have now. You can find them just over 2K if you are patient. Its an amazing amp. I've been playing for 30+ years and I have a hard time finding anything that comes close to it.

It is an Agile 3000M with SD pups. I've since put in Fralins and coil tap. Check out the other HR 50 + vid I have up, with the mod removed. Sounds way better IMO. I wish I knew this for the years I owned it.... only got the mod removed before selling.
