The date 1964-10-16 is a very meaningful date to the People's Republic of China. It is the day that China showed its true military power. It was the day on which China became the world's fifth nuclear nation. On November 16, 1964, China succesfully detonated its first atomic bomb. It was a 22-kiloton implosion-triggered device that used only Uranium-235 (which was the only fissile material available at that time), exploded over the Lop-Nur test site. At the time of the test, the U.S. had already threatened China five times with nuclear attack. So, WHAT NOW, America?

The Chinese nuclear program started in the late 1950s, and the code-name "02" was given by Communist chairman Mao Zedong. The bomb was set to detonate on a 102-meter high tower. The bomb was exploded at 7:00 GMT. The lesson for the day? DON'T MESS WITH CHINA!

*Interesting fact: China developed and detonated its own hydrogen bomb only TWO YEARS (shortest time for any country) after its first atomic bomb test. China also managed to design and build its own nuclear missiles.

Is there any reason to be surprised by this? It's not like they were breaking new ground scientifically, and China has a hell of a lot of people to put to work on it.

It's a bit like stating "Hah! I was the 6th person to 'invent' Q-tips. And I did it in no time at all!".

  • The message is clear: "We are not to be trifled with".

  • one country launches one bomb all other countries use theirs we all die no one wins.

If you are not in the blast area starvation does not sound fun.

  • will Iran is going to use One-Kiloton underground nuclear test..lets see what happens

  • they treated their soldiers with amazing care, and the horses too. China needed US assistance to stop the Japanese rape in WW2, why are we in debt to them?

    WTF???

  • @Gnomefro correct me if I'm wrong, making a nuclear bomb is way more complicated than making a cotton swab.

  • @Gnomefro The difference is that other people don't let you see their hydrogen bombs and or give you the plans to making one.

  • 3:17 is that guy shooting to the cameraman!?

  • Would you want some soy sause

  • China is so strong.
