A lot of companies here in Canada encourage sick employees to stay home. Sick people can be contagious and it seems when they go to work they bring down productivity. Having a sick employee stay home is better for business. I read this in several articles but I ain't got the references.

Haha! I lived so close to grocery store in Japan and I'd walk to the store and buy obentos all the time and would be made fun of! But they have such variety it's so good and i am a bad cook. Hope you get better.

@TessReimi yes actually some obentous are healthy...lol...some veggies and what not. i chose the most healthy looking one today for 300 yen plus 20% off of it lol!!!! win!!

@nibbles1637 Agree ! I am with the National Gov't. and in my particular section they do all they can to discourage use of sick leave. Instead the make a practice of praising and rewarding those who accumulate sick leave.Really they don't care much about the health of the worker.I hate to think what its like in private outfits.Anyway with the jobs so scarce,the employer has the power.

If your department complains about equality, then everyone should take an equal amount of sick days. Sick days are there for you to use...not to sit there and accumulate.

It's better to have one person out sick rather than have them come in and infect 5 more people.

I'm originally from Toronto and I find that too. They're always like "if you're sick, stay at home so you don't get us sick!" But they always seem to really hate it when you actually do call in sick. -_- And the cold still manages to spread through the entire store/office/school at the speed of light anyway. And so many people call in sick all the time and for the majority of it, it's just to get the day off. But I always feel so guilty calling in sick, whether I actually am or not. >.<

The reason I asked this question was because I always hear about how companies expect such devotion and loyalty out of their workers. That short of life or death illnesses you are expected to be at work. I know where Im at the workers could care less. They show up if they feel like it or really need the money vs actually caring 4 the Co.
