A flock of 78 in inner Quartermaster Harbor, Vashon Island, 21 Nov 2010. Not feeding but swimming around, preening & snoozing. There were only 5 adult plumage males in the group. The sharply defined interface between the brown head/neck and whitish gray breast is diagnostic and separates these from red-breasted mergansers.
