Here's how to perform a kettlebell snatch.

Steve Cotter is one of the world's leading authorities on kettlebells and kettlebell training.

yep. his functional strength and flexibility is also off the charts. This guy is an insanely good athlete. You can find guys who look just as big and ripped, but Steve Cotter will put them to shame functionally.

  • @androydnyc -- sorry, strike that-- i'm uncertain.

it was POSTED after he'd begun incorporatinG VF's GS work into his own KB practice

  • @viktore1 I believe his technique changed a bit since this video was made, there is a purpose for everything

  • my pt instructed me when your at the top of the lift you rotate the kb around your wrist instead of flipping it over it as it prevents bruising and injury. Was that wrong or am i missing something?

  • @mrjustadude1 sorry but the answer is . . . "it depends"

depends upon which model you are using-- most KB coaches will provide the standard "exhale as you lift, inhale as you lower" guidance

the last time i saw Coach Steve demonstrating the snatch, he was using anatomical breathing patterns where you exhale upon the eccentric to permit the lungs to collapse and inhale upon the lift, using the breath to assist in the lift.

  • @androydnyc cool

  • @soulofone --no, this is after.

  • @soulofone think of it is anatomical breathing-- why would you INhale as you are 'collapsing' the thorax on the downward arc of the swing? your inflated lungs just get in the way of a tighter rib cage. you Exhale on the downward to permit the lungs to deflate

also, you INhale on the upward arc to use the lungs and the musculature involved in inhalation to assist in teh lift or swing, making the movement easier.

  • @ArCxlioN actually no it's right with kettlebells you exhale on the way down and inhale on the way up unlike other lifting.

  • @soulofone that is completely wrong

  • This must have been when Cotter still did hard style kettlebell training before he trained with Valery Fedorenko?
