Report on the visit of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh to India and Pakistan in January, February and March 1961.

Film recalls the ceremony fifty years earlier when George V was proclaimed Emperor of India in Delhi. Queen, accompanied by Prince Philip, now arrives as head of the Commonwealth and is welcomed at the airport by Vice-President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Nehru. For the next five weeks the royal couple have a busy schedule, holding a garden party reception, driving through Karachi in a motorcade, visiting the Palace of the Maharajah of Jaipur, crossing the Lake of Udaipur in a launch, playing polo in Lahore, seeing Lake Pichola and the Khyber Pass, admiring the gardens and buildings of Shalimar and Srinagar and seeing evidence of the sub-continent's rapid industrial development, including the steel mill at Durgapur, the Warsak Dam for hydroelectric power and the Adamjee jute mill near Dacca. Film ends with coverage of the Republic Day in Delhi and the remark that the visit has strengthened the already warm friendship of Pakistan and India and Britain.
