Here is Zhukov playing Scriabin's cry to God. It was his first large-scale work with very generous proportions. This was recorded in 1972 for Melodiya. The piano used on the recording is a Bechstein.

Warning! : This is an edit. The exposition is originally played 2 times. What you hear is the exposition's repeat. To hear everything, search for the vinyl record...!!!

  • Why do you say it's not the real piece ?

I think it is !! He just play it with a slow tempo which is quite interesting and original.

  • I think what furyustar meant is that is not the WHOLE piece, instead of the real piece.

The slower the tempo, the better 'cause all the notes are played and heard. No need to rush in that kind of repertoire. Another example would be scriabin's op. 28 fantasy.

  • @pkarkivist Nonsense. Have you heard nothing about Scriabin's own playing or the concept of 'flight'. It's simply absent here.

  • @wayneredhart hmmm, just to let you know, his concept of "flight" (or scriabinian elan) started appearing around op. 30 (4th sonata), this is only op. 6... on that stage, he was still trying to figure out his own voice/composition style.

  • ...he really knows what he is doing.

Many great moments in this interpretation.

I will need to file out those missed notes of my interpretation

and also get it recorded on a grand piano.

  • @pkarkivist What of the way he played op. 8 no. 12? Is that only because he'd since written the fourth sonata? Personally, I definitely don't believe so. Early or not, I think that this sonata is both more effective and more characteristic of the Scriabin style, when those arpeggios take off. Just because he hadn't yet used the term volando, doesn't mean that it wasn't in the same musical spirit. There are many good things here, but it's just stuck on the ground too much of the time.

  • yah i know, it's weird. i haven't read the score, but there is some breathing in there, inbetween some phrases that i think is more effective when played at this tempo.

  • I also share your opinion. The melody has a lot of feelings inside, it can't be played in a rush. You should understand it whyle lirtening to it. His interpretation is more musical.

  • Well it's his interpretation :)

Scriabin wrote Allegro con fuoco so normally you have to play it quite fast and then Meno Mosso, but i like this interpretation too.

  • if crispin hellion glover is listening to this i recommend he download/buy the original version.
