Copied this idea from a video on Youtube by Malcolm Parker- Lisberg.I thought this was an excellent project and it saves putting a strain on the carriage when trying to cut a keyway.

  • Hi Malcolm

Thankyou for the kind comments! Also for putting up your version for us. The keyways I have cut are usually imperial sizes. I just select a hss tool steel I.E. 1/8 3/16 1/4 etc

and just give it a little bit of top and face clearance.

ps I have made a spacer plate to fix the slotter on to which enables me to use it on the milling machine using the rotary table.

    thanks again Mick

  • Not a lotta people know that.

Great video. I made one of these too, but it wasn't quite as solid and I was worried about blunting the tool on the return stroke due to no clap box relief.

  • A marvellous video. Very ingenious!

  • Nice work, good adaption, sounds just like mine when it is operating.

Have you found a way of accurately making the cutters to the correct width? I found it difficult to grind HSS accurately and ended up using a diamond wheel mounted in a mandrel on the mill and using the fine downfeed to set the cut.

    Malcolm
