St. Barnabas Orthodox Church of Costa Mesa CA. The Choir is singing "The Angel Cried". The choir is under the direction of Yumi Larsen. It is the last time they will sing this for 2010 as this was the last wedding at the church for the year. It is a long time until Pascha 2011!!!

Lyrics:

The Angel cried to the Lady full of grace:
Rejoice, rejoice O pure Virgin!
Again, I say rejoice! Your son is risen
from his three days in the tomb.
With himself he has raised all the dead.
Rejoice, rejoice O ye people"
Shine, Shine! Shine O new Jerusalem
The Glory of the Lord has shown on you
Exult now, exult and be glad O Sion.
Be radiant, O Theotokos, in the Resurrection
the Resurrection of your Son

  • Hey! that's Kevin Allen from ancient faith radio's "Illumined heart" singing with them! second from the far right of the music director.

  • @LiturgicalChants YES, you are right! Good eye. That handsome man is Kevin. Very good eye.

For double the money, can you name any others?

  • Very beautiful. Although the style of singing is very classic early 20th century Russian style, I like it. I would like to visit your church someday.

  • @IoanShoji Please do. Last week we had Father Irenei Steenberg at our annual outreach seminar. Any week is a wonderful experience, but I think our Sundays with BBQ's, the annual fall seminar (first weekend in November), and the Pascha season are probably the best times to come visit. Please come!

And, BTW, even though we are Antiochian, the choir is Russian style. Remember, we are a convert parish from the EOC so our grafting into The Church is a little...different.

  • The beauty of Orthodoxy!

  • @crankycicada Amen my friend! Amen! This has become my favorite hymm of all time anywhere.

  • Wonderful!

  • My favorite Orthodox Christian hymn...though I love it even more when they let the kids (even 38 year old kids:)) ring the bells along with the hymnn

  • Beautiful!

  • This is the best version. I love it and I will sing it in less than 2 weeks!

  • @Prancer1231 I do know which ones your talking about that has the icon. That was a great version. I believe it was Russian but could be wrong.

  • Does anyone know who wrote this? I'm looking for it in the original language.

    Is it Serbian or Russian?

There was a good version of it on Youtube but it's been removed.
