Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Corks, he's the best. Wish I'd got to meet him. I wouldn't have known what to say, except, 'Melon!'
'Melon' remains my favourite piece of ... what? poetry? ... ever.

I remember Ivor Cutler reading poetry at my school in London (stanhope greenford ) back in 1971 or 1972 He was with a tall man who played the piano, forgot his name.

@rabbitpi Dear Rabbit, Thank you. No, I'm serious- your comment is a needed bit of redirection.
Actually, I'd completely forgotten I'd posted here. But the real epiphany for me- that is, the realization that your advice is spot on- is that when the video came on, I had no memory of it whatsoever. Of course, I knew who Ivor Cutler was- I watched this in the first place for him- but the song was completely unfamiliar, which showed how overcome I'd been by a poster's political comments.

@written12 *sigh* just listen to the silly music, there's plenty of political discussion boards elsewhere.

excellent stuff from an icon of the british music scene

How about the Palestinians of Gaza who are being crushed by their own kind- the religious fanatics of Hamas. What about the Congo? And you think Gaddafy is bad? He is, but about the regime in Iran?
Where were you- or where would you have been if you're too young- when Jordan occupied the West Bank and Egypt, Gaza between '48 and '67?

I'm happy to be uplifted to a shop in the sky - where we can all get all we want - for instance - to find a magic dust that one can sprinkle over all war torn and disaster areas and alleviate the misery of the suffering endured by its people, particularly the plight of the Japanese right now. Libya fighting for the one chance of being liberated from a monstrous regime. Palestine, whose voice is has been deafened by Israeli belief that its rights are above the rights of others, its neighbours.-

How we need Ivor now in bland corporate Britain 2011.
When I met Ivor Cutler in the early 70s he gave me one of the two best pieces of advice I've ever had: that life is better if you wear pretty socks. I have endeavoured to do so ever since.
