Please watch in HD!

My quartet Rendezvous had the pleasure of recording a 7 song EP in October of 2009 here in Toronto. My older sister Sarah, a Ryerson University media student, was able to secure us some studio time as well as coordinate and co-produce the session along with myself.

"Drive By" is an a cappella tune written and arranged by a group called the Blenders. This style of singing was what Danny, Brodie and Myself started singing in early highschool with our quartet Mixed Nuts (we have some videos online). Danny and I transcribed Simon Rylander's recording of it in the fall of 2008 and it has become probably our goofiest song we do. But however, the studio has it's limitations, but hope you still have fun watching it!

Bass : Calvin Frank (mrcalvinfrank)
Baritone : Andrew Kesler (andrewkesler)
Lead : Brodie Cuff (brodiecuff)
Tenor : Danny Fong (daniscool99)

Working in the booth along with my sister was our good friend and amazing drummer Tristan Henderson (check him out in my videos of "Nardis" and "In the Beginning"). Tristan engineered the session and did most of the mixing along with myself. The final mixes of all the tunes were completed in early February and I've been slowly working away on the videos when i've had time.

*If you're interested in getting a hold of mp3s of our work, send me a private message and I'll get back to you!*

Equipment used:
Blue Bottle (Danny), Neumann TLM 103 (Brodie), Neumann TLM 49 (Calvin), Blue Berry (Andrew)

NOT SHOWN: 2 Apex 435's placed in opposite room corners for Stereo effect, and a large diaphragm condenser mic placed high up in the center of the room. Note: The room was TERRIBLE for barbershop singing, which was a bit of a drag, but we did it anyways.

Recorded and mixed on Protools 8. Video shot with some random nice camera. Video edited with Final Cut Pro. NO PITCH CORRECTION OF ANY KIND USED! What you're seeing is what you're hearing. EQ, Compression, Limiting, Reverbs (long and short) and other such plug-ins used, as well as volume automation.

*Don't forget to rate and subscribe and comment and all that. We'd really appreciate if you'd share this with your friends and family because we don't make any money doing this and it takes lots of work, so getting some extra exposure helps out a lot!*

Thanks, and enjoy!

  • Outstanding audio quality on this one! And you guys are so together- best intonation I've heard from you! This is up there with Manhattan Transfer's "Boy From New York City."

  • For far too many years, I thought Barbershop Quartet singing was a dead art form. Now not only am I delighted that the art form in still alive and kicking, there seems to be a steady injection of new blood. In the world of thrash metal and rap, this turn of events actually gives hope. May your memories be golden, may your harmonies and rhythms be obscenely tight, and may the squeeks, cracks, honks and fnorks all be on the other guys.

  • 2:57 Andrew, your face is like a child on Christmas morning.
