CD album " American Originals" liner note
... The Trio moved to Decca Records for a couple of albums before Stewart left and Shane and reynolds went their own separate way. "When I left the Trio, Stewart says "I wanted to form another trio, with Henry Diltz and a girl, though we couldn't find the right one.I discovered Buffy Ford in Fairfax, California, where she was working in little theater - she'd been on the road as a member of The Young Americans. But by that time, Henry was busy with his career as a photographer, and it didn't sound like Buffy and I need a third voice."...

John Stewart (Henry Diltz's Book "California Dreaming")
I met Henry back in 1961 and we became fast friends immediately; we sat on the beach in Hawaii and played banjo and guitar with Chip Douglas and we have stayed in touch ever since. He wasn't talking pictures then. Then he got a camera and he started taking pictures of fire hydrants but they were the greatest fire hydrants I had ever seen...

Russ Kunkel (Henry Diltz's Book "California Dreaming")
My first real professional job was playing with Henry, Chip Douglas ( Modern Folk Quartet MFQ ) and John Stewart and that was the first time I ever went on the road - we played Boston, New York, Chicago - it was pretty exciting for me, I was about 18 or 19. ...When I was working with him there was a fiddle player named Chris Darrow also in band. While Chris was touring in Europe he had become friends with Peter Asher who worked for Apple...

  • The bass player on this tune is Bryan Garafalo. That was the first day I ever played with John Stewart. I am Chris Darrow.

  • There was a lot of effort and love to make this video, and it is greatly appreciated. This is what is so great about YouTube. We can share the love.

  • @chrisdarrow Hey Chris! Legendary stuff! Great to hear from you. Hope all is well with you. My favourite album title of all time is still When Scopes Collide by Kaleidoscope!!!

  • sounds a bit like bat out of hell

  • Let's not forget that B'rer Darrow was an original member of the Nitty Gritty

    Dirt Band....

  • who is playing mandolin ?

  • To chris, you did it pretty up and walking good bro!

  • @chrisdarrow Just heard some great music last night in Claremont. Ellen Chase sat in with the Claremont Voodoo Society.

  • @Dunkleosteus9 You could say that-hard to categorize. He worked with a lot of Nashville musicians and his records were always ( in every record shop I ever saw) filed in the "country" section.

  • ha ha this song is shit ha ha humans cant sing ha ha ha ha ha

  • @justasinger54 I completely agree, esp. about the Last Campaign Trilogy. The stupid BLM is still pulling that crap, and Shoot All The Brave Horses, and Wild Horse Road could become the theme songs of the campaigns to save them.

If someone has decent copies of both songs, PLEASE post them, as well as any other songs not available here. How about Some Lonesome Picker, as well? Jeez there's so much great stuff not available (and yet 47 versions of Gold????) Phoenix Concerts vid anyone?

  • @OceanPoet I think it was just a poor attempt at a self-deprecating joke. I don't think he intended offense, but it didn't come out very well, I agree.
