The band opened up for the day it and improved during the evening where I was able to contact a few southern stations on 27.4250 LSB. I am running a Super Antenna MP1 about 4 feet above the ground, clamped to a picnic table! There was so much activity today that it was a challenge to break through the pileup on the freeband. It was great to see so much activity on a band thats been pretty dorment the past months.

  • Are you using any type of power amp? Or are you really transmitting on 4 watts?

  • @jernito It is a 50 watt radio.

  • i see here you have a 6 digit frequency counter i was at

a web site looking at a Magnum S-9 10 Meter Radio and

it omly have a 5 digit frequency counter did you mod your

    radio ??

  • @spencer4real No, what you see is what you get. There is a button that turns the counter off and it auto switches to 5 digits on AM mode for whatever reason. I was using SSB during this call. I plan to do another video of it as the band has been quite active the last few days to South Carolina, Barbados, Georgia. I probably won't purchase a Magnum radio again after using my buddies Yaesu FT890. I am definately looking to sell my export 10 meter radios to get a Yaesu or Kenwood amatuer radio.

  • Good grief man, get legal, get your license and use the antenna on real radio. (HF)

  • I have no interest in operating outside 27mhz... I find it fun to play on freeband once in awhile. ham radio isn't really my thing.. i just play on 11 me

  • @Randyc2800 Sad sad sad. I am a ham but 11 meters is real radio with real people. Most of the people I speak to on 11 meters are hams anyway!

  • how much would you sell the s9 for?

  • It does a litlle on the freq counter when its cold but then it is stable. I don't find it a problem.

  • I heard s9's drift on sideband. That is the only thing keeping me from buying one as I like to shoot skip on sideband only. How does yours do on sideband? Pretty stable?
